In search for an inclusive space for African women professionals to share their experiences, I embarked on this journey, creating this Space where every woman matters and all our journeys count irrespective of the routes we choose to take. It has been challenging to keep up with the changing world but we have stayed true to our commitment to make sure that women thrive at home and in the workplace. We have been able to organize conferences, symposiums, workshops, talent hunt events and even Bootcamps. Together we have built something beautiful. Our hope is for this to become a recognized non profit organization and reach more people in diverse communities and situations. Every woman matters

ABOUT CHIOMA CHIGOZIE-OKWUM
Broadly, my research asks: How can we design AI and algorithmic technologies in ways that genuinely center user voices, especially in complex, opaque systems where meaningful critique is difficult? I work at the intersection of Human–Computer Interaction, participatory design, and socio-technical systems, with a central focus on how people meaningfully engage with data-driven algorithmic systems (DDAS). I study how users understand, question, critique and feel legitimacy to contribute to the design of AI, ML and broadly data driven algorithmic systems. To operationalize the aforementioned, I design methods that make it possible for user feedback to shape how algorithmic systems are built. My research agenda has led me to develop structured approaches for eliciting and interpreting user feedback during the design of DDAS, combining qualitative inquiry, participatory design, and quantitative analysis. Through collaborations with legal nonprofits, data journalists, and community partners, I have examined how feedback emerges across think-aloud sessions, interviews, and workshops, demo sessions, focus groups, surveys, usability studies and how different engagement formats shape what users feel empowered to comment on. Moving forward, I plan to extend my work into critical AI literacy, community-based participatory AI design, and tools that support vulnerable and underrepresented populations in navigating AI-mediated environments.My work blends mixed-methods research, participatory design, and socio-technical analysis to study real-world deployments of algorithmic systems and the human practices surrounding them. My methodological toolkit spans qualitative/quantitative methods, coding and statistical analysis of qualitative data, and the co-design of systems with practitioners.My early career as an IT administrator, entrepreneur, and university ICT director in Nigeria grounded me in the practical realities of technology, leadership, and education in resource-constrained settings that continue to shape my research perspective.In parallel, I am an active cybersecurity educator and advocate known as “CyberChioma,” using guides, workshops, and online outreach to promote digital safety for diverse communities while staying grounded in the real-world experiences that inform my research.Across research, teaching, advocacy, and outreach, my goal is consistent: to ensure that technology design is not only technically sound, but also interpretable, inclusive, and responsive to the people it is meant to serve.
