ABOUT CHRISTIAN ALEXANDER BURGOS WILLIAMS

I was 16 - a curious and energetic high school student newly living in Miami, and with roots in the inner city Black and Puerto Rican communities of Queens, New York - when I was offered my first paid internship supporting the CEO of a South Florida community non-profit. I held this role alongside my part-time job helping little humans and their families explore the local children’s museum - a second non-profit and a popular destination for tourists and Miami residents alike. Since then, my career has seen me work closely with staff of all levels, from executive to volunteer, across numerous industries and functions including public relations and strategic communication; recruiting and human resources; hospitality, travel and tourism management; beer, wine and spirits; higher education; and international development. Those have only been the day jobs. In my spare time, I\'ve leveraged the lessons I\'ve learned to create in-person & digital communities for connection around shared identities and interests; helped increase access to the transformative experience of international travel and study abroad; supported the recruitment and retention of Black, Latino/x and LGBTQ+ staff by building intentional spaces to engage in networking and the collection of feedback, and then by advocating for the needs of those groups in partnership with senior executives; and more. I have earned recognition for my work, such as by being named to The Advocate Magazine\'s Champions of Pride List in 2020 and being awarded the inaugural ALPFA Pride award by the Association of Latino Professionals for America in 2021. When I\'m not trying to change the world in my own small (yet big) ways, I\'m making the most of what life has to offer by traveling, eating, drinking, singing, dancing, learning and laughing - in beautiful places or, at the very least, with my beautiful people.
