About Chakri Vemulapalli

Hello, I am Chakri (chuh-kree). I am a third-year Aerospace Engineering student at NC State passionate about aerospace structural design. Outside of academics, I am currently in a co-op rotation at GE Vernova Gas Power and an Airframe Engineer at NC State\'s Liquid Rocketry Lab. These experiences are preparing me to become a professional engineer and giving me relevant aerospace industry experience. At GE, my work involves extending the life span of jet engine derived (aeroderivative) gas turbine engines. I work with my team to support the current LMS100 and fleet by dynamically developing repairs on engine parts. I provide sophisticated structural simulation results on repaired parts and suggesting changes to the repair process. In the coming months, we plan to industrialize the manufacturing of spare parts for GE Vernova\'s full aeroderivative product line.At LRL, I developed a trade study on rocket engine mount designs by researching common engine mount structures and doing FEA on 3D modeled designs. Additionally, I have used MATLAB to develop a 1D heat model that analyzes the thermodynamics of the nose cone. This work has allowed the design of these parts to move on to the manufacturing and testing stage and can soon be integrated into the final rocket. Outside of GE and LRL, I am learning Python, C++, CFD, and aerodynamic analysis. I would love to apply these skills to real world engineering and am actively looking for opportunities to do so. Feel free to reach out here on Linkedin to start a conversation!
