ABOUT CURTIS SLATER

I am a nonprofit leader, public speaker, and advocate committed to building inclusive communities where children, youth, and adults with disabilities can learn, grow, and thrive. As the Executive Director of The PREP Society in Calgary, I lead a dynamic team dedicated to providing high-quality educational, therapeutic, and community-based supports for people with Down syndrome and their families. With more than 20 years of experience across nonprofits, education, and disability services, my work has always centered on equity, inclusion, and creating pathways for people to reach their full potential. I’ve served in roles ranging from researcher to instructor to organizational leader, giving me a unique systems-level perspective on how programs, policy, education, and community partnerships intersect.I am especially interested in how emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, can strengthen the social services and education sectors. I speak regularly on the opportunities and risks of AI in human-centered fields, and I support organizations in exploring how innovation can enhance service delivery, decision-making, and long-term sustainability without losing the humanity at the heart of our work.At PREP, I’m focused on- Strengthening programs and services for children, youth, and adults with disabilities- Building strong partnerships across the nonprofit and education sectors- Leading strategic planning, financial stewardship, and organizational growth- Championing inclusion, belonging, and meaningful participation for every individualAbove all, I believe that inclusive communities don’t happen by accident, they happen through intention, collaboration, and bold leadership. I’m passionate about bringing people together to imagine what’s possible and to design a future where every person is seen, supported, and valued.
