About Curtis Hinshaw

As a Packaging Project Manager, I work with sports and collector cards, collector card sets, gaming cards, kitting, and packaging supplies. I am in constant communications with my customers and review their documentation and refine as needed for our work processes. I write the instructions for hand producing the various types of cards, which includes laminating layers together, inserting memorabilia, serial numbering; and for packaging the products to fit the requirements for the different retail markets. I also work with the commercial and print projects. As a Print Project Manager, I manage and approve various packaging products, including overwrap for finsealed packs, display boxes for different packaging requirements, master carton specifications, and ways of tracking the daily packaging of our product. I also manage the production of the card products including as mentioned above. In the process leading up to accepting this position, I worked in the production areas to learn the processes. I have found several ways to streamline and sometimes eliminate steps in order to achieve a better result and/or a less expensive cost. One of these did away with a process that was being performed on every printed or non-printed sheet that would be laminated, which could be an annual volume of hundreds of thousands of sheets, and the workers’ time to perform it. I work with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Applications, Radius, Programmed Solutions, WMS Warehouse Management Software, and JobPack Scheduling Software. I was transferred to our RTP Campus from our Greensboro Campus, where I worked on a rotating night shift as a Prepress Specialist. I was the only person in my department the majority of the time, and performed all prepress functions, whether digital or conventional. I used Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Quark Xpress, Pagemaker, and a variety of refining and trapping, imposition, and plating software. I was also the planning coordinator for the department for several years.

I have handled all aspects of the prepress department; including conventional/redundant and computerized/digital operations. I have the knowledge to take the supplied files from a customer and make the final product match what they had in mind when they designed and viewed it on their monitor. I also have the experience to diplomatically inform a customer of needed changes in their procedures that will result in a higher quality product and save them money in the future. Customers appreciate my input, and the services I can provide.I also enjoy the fast pace of prepress. When a press went down, the pressmen always joked to me that it would take me 7 minutes and 13 seconds to have a corrected plate to them so they could get back to running. Maybe a little bit longer according to the type of change that needed to be made, but not much more. During that time, I would have files refining and proofs coming out on other projects.
