About Curtis Bates
As an Educator and District Visual and Fine Arts Coordinator with Calhoun County Public Schools, I am excited to share my experiences and leadership qualifications with you. Instructional leadership, according to John Hattie, is a predictive indicator for student success; thus, as leaders, our day-to-day instructional decisions and moves must seek to benefit students first. As a District Visual and Fine Arts Coordinator, I pinpointed gaps in our program course catalog, on the high school level, and developed course offerings, like Honors Band and Piano, and engaged in curriculum planning to support the developmental needs of our students and position the program for futuristic growth based on the current and projected needs of the student population(s) that we serve. In the same regard, I also coached 10 Fine Arts Teachers (across three schools) to improve their instructional delivery and co-designed differentiated, instructional systems to support students at various academic and/or fine arts entry points. As an educator, with varied experiences, on the elementary and secondary level, I cultivated learner-centered classrooms that aimed to promote equitable and culturally relevant instruction that provided a safe space for amplified student voice. All of my educational experiences can be attributed to my success as a leader. From my experience as the Program Coordinator for the Summer STEAM Enrichment Camp, where I served as the administrator and managed the organization, planning, and design of the program, to my role on the Leadership Team at the high school, which taught me the value of student advocacy and the collective voice; these experiences coupled with my background in K- 12 education, have equipped with the tools and wherewithal to effectively lead as a transformational leader that places students at the forefront. I truly believe that I am a noteworthy candidate who will utilize my experiences to develop collaborative systems of support, leverage stakeholder engagement, and foster a culture of accountability to accelerate your school’s mission.
