ABOUT TAMARA AVELLAN

Creating sustainable impact in development and researchI am passionate about making the change happen towards sustainable lifestyles by managing scientific and development aid projects that bridge the gap between global politics and local realities. I work on sustainable water and agri-environmental governance across Europe and Latin America, connecting research, policy, and stakeholder processes to support long-term system transformationI have worked intensively on water resources management in relation to ecological stresses and human induced environmental changes. I have addressed questions such as: How can interdisciplinary research be effectively translated into actionable public policy and governance processes? What institutional and governance arrangements enable coherent water, agriculture, and energy policies across scales? How do stakeholder engagement and co-production processes influence policy uptake and implementation? How can nature-based and hybrid solutions (e.g. constructed wetlands) be governed to deliver multiple environmental and societal benefits? What role do regional and international alliances play in advancing equitable and resilient sustainability transitions? How can policy instruments better integrate social dimensions, including gender and equity, in agri-environmental governance?All questions boil down to the capacity of humans to make sustainable decisions in all three sense of the word sustainable - economic, ecological and social. We are the key to this question. Will we be able to admit that our behavior needs change? Can we develop ways in which participation leads to measurebale impact?
