I’m Carlos Tapang, Founder & CEO of RockStable. And at heart, still a programmer with some big ideas about money. My journey started long before crypto, with decades in engineering and leadership roles at companies like Intel, Microsoft, Nordstrom, and Wipro. Along the way, I picked up hard lessons from running a Bitcoin mining business and the volatility of early crypto markets. Those lessons pushed me to focus on what really matters: stability, trust, and practical tools that people can use every day.In 2018, I turned that focus into RockStable. By 2022, we launched ROKS, a USDC-backed stablecoin for cross-border remittances. It made sending money to the Philippines faster and cheaper, with a wallet that allowed recipients to instantly convert ROKS to PHP. For migrant workers and their families, this wasn’t theory—it’s real financial access. However, the system was hacked in September, 2025; by October I had to shut it down because the hacker gained complete control of the server. Sendroks.com had been a great learning experience for me - one cannot be too careful about security. I am working with cybersecurity students from WGU to study the security lapses further.Today, I’m building IRMA (Inflation Resistant Medium of Account) on Solana. Unlike USD-backed stablecoins that move with inflation, IRMA is reserve-backed by the top six Solana stablecoins. It’s open source, patent pending, and designed as a universal stablecoin that can seamlessly convert between major stablecoins in DeFi. RockStable is still bootstrapped, which means we haven’t taken outside investment yet.
