About Crystal C Romero
Crystal C. Romero is a public speaker, policy advocate, and educator whose work focuses on moral injury, trauma recovery, and emerging psychedelic therapies. She is known for bridging lived experience with research, legislation, and community-based healing models to improve mental health outcomes for veterans, first responders, and civilians navigating institutional trauma. Her advocacy began in 2020 during the national response to the death of SPC Vanessa Guillén, where she became involved in grassroots efforts that contributed to the passage of the I Am Vanessa Guillén Act, later incorporated into the Military Justice Improvement and Increasing Prevention Act (MJIIPA). This work marked the beginning of her public role in legislative advocacy and led to continued involvement in federal and state policy efforts related to mental health, military reform, and access to alternative therapies. She later supported advocacy efforts connected to the Brandon Act, expanding confidential mental health access for service members, and contributed to the passage of New Mexico Senate Bill 219 (Medical Psilocybin Act), helping shape one of the first state-regulated medical psilocybin programs in the United States. She currently participates in community-informed research and public education efforts supporting the development of New Mexico’s regulated psilocybin model.Crystal speaks nationally on moral injury, institutional betrayal, trauma-informed care, and psychedelic-assisted healing. Recent engagements include the Not Alone Summit in Las Vegas, Psychedelic Science 2025, academic and clinical webinars on moral injury, and community forums focused on ethical and culturally informed approaches to healing. In addition to her advocacy and speaking work, she has been an entrepreneur since 2012, building a successful online business while developing partnerships across nonprofit, academic, and corporate sectors. Her collaborations have included work with S&P Global, West Point’s Benavidez Leadership Development Program, veteran advocacy organizations, and mental health initiatives focused on reintegration and post-traumatic growth. Her background includes prior service in the Army National Guard, an experience that informs her perspective but does not define her work today. Based in New Mexico, she is a mother of three and continues to focus on helping individuals and communities restore identity after institutional harm and find meaningful paths toward healing and purpose.
