Dependable and dedicated journalist and educator with decades of experience spanning the newsroom and classroom. Crystal has written and produced hundreds of stories; taught several college-level media courses; advised two award-winning student publications; and mentored student leaders. As an educator, she has cultivated safe and brave spaces for people to engage in meaningful discourse surrounding issues of diversity, equity and inclusion at the intersection of media, culture and society. As a newsroom adviser, Crystal has guided student editors and managers in all aspects of operating a media outlet, such as setting an editorial calendar; partnering with the community to create engaging social media content; planning and executing recruitment strategies; interviewing and training new hires; running weekly staff meetings; streamlining communication; managing workflow; enforcing workplace policies; and rolling in ad revenue. She also provided leadership development and skills training workshops. Student editors and managers often turned to Crystal for ideas on how to help their team foster a deep sense of connectedness and commitment to one another as each pursues a common purpose for the greater good.
