ABOUT JONAH CRYPTOCAT BURGESS

I\'m a security researcher, ethical hacker, and content creator with experience in penetration testing, web security, and malware analysis. I hold an MSc and PhD in cyber security from Queen\'s University Belfast, where my research focused on cryptojacking and exploit kit detection. Along the way, I published papers and presented at academic conferences, with that work forming the basis of my thesis.During my studies, I gained hands-on experience through internships and industry roles — including a summer web security project at the Security & Privacy Lab at Infosys in India, and over a year at IBM Security Systems working on the QRadar SIEM. I also spent over seven years as a demonstrator at QUB, mostly on security-focused modules — some of which I helped develop content for.After my PhD, I worked at Intigriti, where I created technical content (YouTube videos, blogs, write-ups, hacking exercises), organised monthly challenges, hosted the annual 1337UP Capture the Flag (CTF) competition, and engaged with the community both online and in person, representing the company at conferences and events. I also co-developed the Practical Bug Bounty course with TCM Security.These days, I focus on bug bounty hunting and creating educational content for the infosec community. I run my own website (cryptocat.me), GitBook, and Discord server, where I share CTF challenges, technical write-ups, tools, and tutorials. My YouTube channel covers topics like binary exploitation, web hacking, reverse engineering, and forensics — aiming to make complex topics more accessible.I\'ve earned certifications including OSCP, OSWE, CPTS, and BSCP, and plan to pursue further Offensive Security training (OSCE³). I\'m active in the wider security community through platforms like HackTheBox and CTFTime, and regularly take part in CTF competitions — including some prize-winning entries. I have a couple of long-term goals; compete at Pwn2Own and present some innovative security research at DefCon.
