Experience
Senior Security Architect
Jun 2018 — Present · Plattsburgh, NY, US
I started at Microsoft in the Office org, moving over to Teams in Spring 2024. Projects across Teams and Office have included (not an exhaustive list):• Rolling out security tooling (inventory tooling, anomaly detection, configuration enforcement, dual+ elevation approval mechanisms, telemetry, application control solutions (WDAC), and more) to of services.• Driving prioritized improvements in Engineering Systems/DevOps Security based on first principles (least privilege, secure by default, defense in depth, etc.).• Driving security bug hygiene across Office and Teams through automation, reporting, and verifying that the security bugs we give our teams are actionable and impactful.• Running the security champs program in Teams, with 100+ champs doing security reviews, handling security/compliance assessments, and more to help our dedicated security team scale. Includes training of champs and engineers, champ certification, and most importantly making sure champs get credit for spending cycles on security.• Built the local security risk register for Teams, which prioritizes the most important security hardening work that Teams product groups can go after to keep our customers safe. I also dedupe/pull in content from Microsoft\'s company-wide risk registry project as appropriate. On the research front, I\'ve created partnerships with academic and industrial researchers and Office regarding fuzzing and static analysis, and how results from these types of tools can be made more actionable for developers. If you\'re a researcher interested in seeing how your work translates to one of the biggest engineering teams in the world, would love to get in touch!
