ABOUT CRISTINA MARTINEZ-FERNANDEZ DE CAMARA
For the past decade, I have worked on AAV-based gene therapy programmes for inherited retinal diseases, supporting their progression from non-clinical development into clinical trials, including Phase 3.My work focuses on translational development, linking preclinical data to clinical strategy. I have contributed to potency assay development, vector characterisation, and dose rationale, working closely with CMC, regulatory, and clinical teams to ensure that data generated in experimental systems is relevant, robust, and decision-ready.I operate at the interface between biology and development, where experimental data must translate into choices that are scalable, reproducible, and defensible in front of regulators and clinicians. This includes situations where direct disease models are limited and assay relevance becomes critical.I am particularly interested in roles that focus on translational strategy and early development in advanced therapies, where rigorous biology needs to align with clinical and regulatory reality. I enjoy the work that turns promising data into something patients can actually receive.
