ABOUT RICK CRAWFORD
Rick Crawford is a nationally recognized crisis leadership expert with more than three decades of experience leading people through uncertainty, risk, and high-consequence events. His career reflects a rare blend of frontline command, executive decision-making, and strategic systems leadership—earned where leadership matters most.Rick currently serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator for the United States Capitol, United States Supreme Court, and Library of Congress, where he develops and implements emergency management, evacuation, and continuity-of-government plans for some of the nation’s most critical institutions. His work supports National Special Security Events, including Presidential Inaugurations, State Funerals, Joint Sessions of Congress, and large-scale public gatherings involving senior government officials and international dignitaries.Before federal service, Rick spent 34 years with the Los Angeles Fire Department, rising to Battalion Chief. He commanded complex incidents in one of the country’s most demanding urban environments and served as Operations Section Chief on LAFD’s Crisis Management Team, led the Department Operations Center, and commanded one of the busiest 911 communications centers in the world. His experience spans wildfires, active-shooter incidents, infrastructure failures, natural disasters, and multi-agency crisis operations.A respected authority on interagency coordination, Rick was the chief negotiator and author of more than two dozen automatic and mutual-aid agreements, strengthening response capabilities across local, state, and federal partners. He also co-authored the LAFD Strategic Plan (2023–2026) and helped modernize leadership development, succession planning, and crisis response systems.Beyond government service, Rick is the founder of Execute Your Plan LLC, where he advises executives, government agencies, law firms, universities, and private organizations on crisis leadership, executive readiness, crisis communications, incident simulations, and organizational resilience.He is a frequent national media commentator, providing calm, credible analysis for CNN, FOX News, ABC, NBC, and other outlets during unfolding crises.Rick is the author of Ecosystem of Leadership and the forthcoming Recognize, Respond, Resolve: The Rs of Crisis Management—works grounded in the belief that crises don’t test plans, they reveal leaders.
