About Craig Mullaney
I’m the GM of the Silicon Carbide business unit at Coherent Corp.(NYSE: COHR), the global photonics leader, with roughly employees worldwide and a market cap of around $50B. Inside the Silicon Carbide unit, I run global operations, spanning product management, sales, finance, R&D, and other functions. Our teams in the U.S, Europe, and Asia make the specialized silicon carbide (SiC) crystals, as well as the corresponding substrates and wafers, vital for electronic vehicles, AI datacenters, and aerospace and defense systems. Prior to this role, I oversaw the Office of the CEO at Coherent, helping shape the company’s leadership rhythm and leading cross-functional initiatives that cut across business units. The common thread: bringing structure, clarity, and follow-through to complex issues that require alignment across a large, technical organization. Before Coherent, I built and led teams in high-pressure environments: scaling global programs at Meta, advising Fortune 500 CEOs on critical issues at Brunswick, and serving as a senior Pentagon official responsible for defense policy in a volatile region. Earlier in my career, I led an infantry platoon in combat in Afghanistan and later wrote The Unforgiving Minute, a bestselling leadership memoir about those experiences. I’m a West Point graduate and Rhodes Scholar with two master’s degrees. Across roles in the military, government, and the technology industry, the through-line has been leadership under pressure—operating at the intersection of strategy and execution when the stakes are high and the path forward isn’t obvious.
