About Craig Spangler
Craig is a Senior Principal and design leader at Ballinger. He has been responsible for a broad spectrum of commissions for the academic community including designs of many significant complex science and engineering initiatives at notable institutions across the country. With a portfolio spanning the spectrum of both teaching and research he has sought to create facilities that inspire discovery and learning while serving as excellent stewards of the environment. His work has won numerous national and local design awards, including R&D Magazine’s prestigious international Laboratory of the Year Award for the sf Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery located on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Other recent work in Craig’s portfolio includes: the sf Science and Engineering Hall at George Washington University; the sf New Jersey Institute for Food Nutrition and Health at Rutgers University; the sf A. James Clark Hall at the University of Maryland; GSF Chemistry Research Facility at the University of Maryland; sf Chemistry Instructional Building at the University of Wisconsin - Madison; sf Singer Hall Project at Swarthmore College; and a sf Engineering Academic Building for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Craig has been published widely and is a frequent speaker at many academic facility forums across the country. His participation in the academic community extends to teaching and design critic roles at architecture schools nationwide. He was named the Kea Distinguished Professor at the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in 2012. Craig is a registered architect in many states and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Craig was a full fellowship recipient from Princeton University where he received his Masters of Architecture. He received his Bachelors of Architecture from the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and was honored with the University’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2013.
