ABOUT CRAIG JOHNSON

CRAIG JOHNSON Freelance Musician / Music Educator / Arranger Born in Ottawa, raised in Winnipeg Craig studied Piano, Trumpet, and Arranging / Composing privately with various highly regarded and accomplished musicians as well as at the University of Manitoba. He relocated to Calgary in 1997 and since then has been performing with some of Calgary’s top groups i.e: Prime Time Big Band, Wednesday Night Big Band, Fox Big Band, etc. As well as with smaller groups with a number of local musicians. Craig performs regularly as a Solo Pianist, and with his Jazz Trio / Quartets around Calgary he has gained years of experience performing at social events such as Corporate Functions, Weddings and Private Gatherings. In 2005 Craig was hired for the position of Artistic Musical Director for the Calgary based Razzama Jazz big band a 19 piece big band. Here he coordinates the rehearsals, musical repertoire, booking performances, and new member selection. In 2009 he produced their CD titled The Warehouse Sessions. In January 2013 he released his CD titled HERE & NOW using his 9 piece R&B band THE ELEVENTH HOUR recording a collection of his original material as well as covering a few of his favorite hit songs listening to growing up. Currently Craig is furthering his music designations to include studying at Berklee College of Music pursuing a degree in writing for Film & TV.
