ABOUT CRAIG FREEMAN

Despite naturally preferring to work independently, my experience keeps showing me that bringing together and motivating people with different experiences, knowledge and skills, establishing some basic practices and getting out of the way as much as possible, is the best way to solve challenges and make progress.Starting my career with Sony, I was lucky that I could smoothly change roles from production, through purchasing, mechanical design, software design and to utilities management. Along the way I learnt new technologies and took different perspectives on what was important: cost reduction, aesthetics, ease of manufacture, usability and reliability and through them all efficiency, predictability and control.Moving on to a handful of small companies I found that we were doing more things that we, and the company, had never done before. The perspective had to change to include experimentation, relax the control and become comfortable with uncertainty.Back within a large multinational, it is exciting to see how we can evolve our ways of working to encourage motivated, highly skilled employees collaborate, experiment and continuously deliver market leading products and industry changing innovations. With responsibility for the PMO, this also includes just enough of a framework to support coordination and transparency of the progress, dependencies, risks and outcomes.
