ABOUT CRAIG CARR
Starting my career in 1996 as a Materials Engineering Postgraduate engineer at British Aerospace (BAE Systems), in Composites Manufacturing for Eurofighter, F35 and UAV Airframes. At BAE systems I received awards for composites development for aerospace and was also involved in wind and marine based programs. 2011 I joined GKN Aerospace Composites Research Centre becoming the manager of the facility in 2013. Becoming the GKN Aerospace Composites Technology Manager in 2016 establishing key activity on UK and EU programs including the Wing of Tomorrow and ASCEND projects. I am a GKN global technical expert supporting their composites portfolio across its sites and have represented the UK in trade missions to the US. In 2020 I became GKN Aerospace Director of Integrated Composite Structures with responsibility for TS, TP and Special Products group. I also Chair the UK Composites Leadership Forum.Specialties: Pre-impregnated and Resin infusion technologies, Automated Fibre & Tape Placement, Automated Assembly, Trans Lamina Reinforcement techniques, sandwich structures, repeatability and repair issues, NDT, Finite Element Analysis for spring back, component design, tooling, process methodology, control instrumentation and materials.
