ABOUT COURTNEY KREN

I am driven by a strong commitment to protection, peacebuilding, and human rights in conflict-affected contexts. My work focuses on advancing protection for women and girls affected by armed conflict, particularly Indigenous and Afro-descendant communities in Latin America, with a deep personal and professional connection to Colombia.I am currently a Fellow with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in New York and an Advocacy & Policy Intern at MADRE, while pursuing a Master of Science in Humanitarian Studies at Fordham University’s Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA). I previously earned a B.A. in International Studies from Fordham University, graduating summa cum laude.Prior to these roles, I interned with several humanitarian and human rights organizations, including the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), HIAS, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Physicians for Human Rights, and Shelter Centre. In these roles, I supported work related to protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), displacement research, protection programming, humanitarian coordination, emergency response initiatives, and knowledge management. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to advancing protection and rights-based humanitarian action.
