ABOUT COSIMO DISTANTE

Master in Computer Sciences: Thesis in Robot Learning:\"Learning by reinforcement of reactive behaviors in robotics\" 21/3/1997 University Bari Dr. Distante has carried out his master thesis at ISSIA-CNR. He has been Visiting researcher at the Computer Science Department of the University of Massachusetts (Umass at Amherst, MA) where has worked in the context of robotics and vision. In 1998 he has served as a teaching assistant of the Artificial Intelligence course of the Master in Science of the University of Massachusetts. In he received the Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Salento Thesis:\"Intelligent Sensors and Systems\". During PhD, he has worked on problems related to the stability of gas sensors by means of pattern recognition techniques. Dr. Distante has been awarded with several fellowships, among them the CNR-NATO in which he has collaborated with the University of Manchester for the study of pattern recognition techniques applied to the context of gas sensor arrays. Since 2003 he is Contract Professor for the courses of Pattern Recognition and Image Processing in Computer Engineering at the University of Salento. He is expert member for the panel in Innovation Technology of the Ministry of the Economic Development and the Apulia Regional Agency in ICT. Dr. Distante has worked at the National Institute of Optics of the CNR where he is responsible for the following research theme: “optical devices and ICT methods for industrial applications”. Since nov 2015 he is with the Institute of Applied Sciences and Intelligent Systems ISASI of CNR. His main research interests are in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition applied to the following sectors: videosurveillance, remote sensing, medical and manufacturing. Dr. Distante is founder of Taggalo s.r.l, a CNR spin-off company, where in 2011 has been awarded with the national innovation prize - working capital PNICube Specialties: Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition
