About Cory Petersen
My career has been driven by one main focus and passion: building and leading high-performing, customer-facing teams that work exceptionally well together. I started my career in luxury hospitality with The Ritz-Carlton, where I learned what world-class service really looks like. During my time there, I really got to do a deep dive into an environment where details matter, expectations were non-negotiables, and team culture and execution was everything. That experience shaped how I think about leadership and set the foundation I still enliven today. During COVID, I made the decision to transition into lending operations and joined Better Mortgage. It was a unique opportunity to take what I learned in hospitality and transition that into a remote environment in an industry that was lacking an exceptional customer experience. At Better, I grew from Mortgage Loan Processor into leading teams responsible for end-to-end coordination across high-volume conventional lending pipelines. That’s where I really developed my understanding of operational efficiency, process design, and what it takes to lead teams effectively in a fully remote environment.During my time at Better I established three core leadership principles that guide how I lead: communication, teamwork, and accountability. I’ve found that when those three things are strong, everything else tends to follow.Today, as Director of Loan Operations at Backflip, I’ve had the opportunity to step into both the business purpose lending space and a true startup environment. It has been an exciting journey and I couldn\'t be more excited about what we are building here! On a personal note, I am a husband and father of one, love to cook and excited to connect with anyone that is wanting to chat about what they have going on!
