ABOUT CORLEIGH ROBERT STIXRUD
I’ve been the head of an amazing international, multicultural, residential school for over ten years, and I love what I do. KIS is an almost 125-year-old American-heritage institution in South India with a rich history of academic trailblazing (the first International Baccalaureate school in India and the third in Asia, all the way back in 1976) and more importantly, a knack for bringing diverse people together in a unique community of learning and living. I believe that educational leaders should be focused on relationships: Schools teach subjects, but more importantly we teach and learn from people-students, parents, and teachers. My key interests revolve around the concept of “school as community,” and authentic, community-based environmental education. In addition to the IB diploma, I am excited to introduce multiple pathways for students to pursue their diverse passions, including further education and careers in sustainability and biodiversity.Achievements:(1) Authored the school’s vision and mission statements and strategic framework;(2) Introduced the strategic master plan for infrastructure growth;(3) Conceived and initiated the Center for Environment and Humanity at KIS;(4) Established a development office at KIS;(5) Led the school through the pandemic with no financial losses;(6) Introduced a four-year college-readiness program at KIS;(7) Maintained my sense of humor through it all.
