ABOUT CORINA HERRERA-LOERA

As a public servant since 1994, a voice for parents - starting with my own, as spanish speakers - a fierce advocate for my community, mother and wife, I am honored to serve my community as a Trustee for the Alum Rock Union Elementary School District! After years of advocating for my daughter, Citlali Xochitl and the ARUSD community as a parent, a member of the PTA and SPARC (Superintendent Parent Advisory Resource Council), I joined the Board of Directors of one of the strongest and most vocal community advocacy organizations in ARUSD, SOMOS Mayfair.As a result of my proven commitment to the betterment of the community and demonstrated leadership ability, I was approached by members of the community and asked to apply to the appointment process, which resulted from a vacancy on the ARUSD Board of Trustees, at the end of 2018.In February 2019, after careful consideration, I applied to the process and was ultimately selected from a field of eight very qualified applicants. Years later during the COVID pandemic I was elected by my community to continue serving on the school board.After years of controversy and stagnation, ARUSD has seen a great deal of positive movement forward and is setting the bar in the state of California as one of the first K-8 school districts to pass resolutions to integrate Ethnic Studies into curriculum, defund contracts with police, implement more restorative prevention and open an Early Learning Center first of its kind in California in the East Side of San Jose.
