About Corey J. Kennedy

As Vertex Education\'s Chief External Relations Officer, I love contributing to Vertex\'s strategy, culture, and growth as part of the executive team. My previous Vertex roles as Chief of Staff and CFO gave me fantastic experience and insights that I draw on as I continue to learn and grow.Prior to joining Vertex in 2013, I spent 12 years in public accounting, which was such a valuable foundation, working with clients in various industries stages of growth. I learned how to learn quickly and gained an ability to zero in on key issues that drive financial performance.Over my career I\'ve learned the value of intentional culture and climate, which is easily neglected, but is more important than day-to-day business and operational realities. I have become a polished writer and speaker, able to boil complex issues down to their simplest form. Finally, I\'m an accounting and finance expert with a knack for strategy who doubles as a \"people person.\" Relationships matter to me.My bachelor\'s degree is from ASU in Accounting with a minor in Spanish, and I graduated with high honors. I passed the CPA exam in my first sitting and was among the last to take it \"old style\" before it was computerized with each section taken separately over time. I\'m still waiting for a letter telling me they goofed and that I didn\'t really pass, but 25+ years later I think I\'m in the clear.Feel free to reach out and connect.
