About Corey Kownacki

I’m a Data Scientist with five years of professional experience developing and productionalizing machine learning algorithms and the data frameworks and experimentation necessary to make them useful. I have broad experience and interests across the data science ecosystem, and am especially interested in interpretable, causal models that provide stakeholders with a path forward that is successful, robust, and easily ingestible in a business context. In practice, I\'ve found that achieving long-term vision requires understanding and trust between stakeholders and project-teams, often best facilitated by dynamically engaging around quick iterations that target low-hanging fruit. Most recently my work has centered on building end-to-end foundational forecasting at Nordstrom and the supporting analytics to win stakeholder buy-in.My projects have spanned multiple fields and a wide variety of approaches, from the high-level mathematics I used during the beginning of my Physics PhD to the deep learning and unsupervised clustering used near its end. This has led me to various proficiencies including Python (pandas, scikit-learn, tensorflow, PyMC3, Pyspark), SQL, and various machine learning models typically deployed on the cloud (AWS, GCP).I also use data science recreationally in pet projects.
