ABOUT COOPER BROWN

Hi, I’m Cooper! Pursuing a double major in Communication and East Asian Area Studies at USC, I\'m driven by a passion for storytelling, intercultural connection, and building inclusive spaces. My diverse experiences span education in K-12 and prison environments, media literacy research, sports broadcasting, film festival operations, and Japanese language study. From the classroom to the Paris Olympics, I am dedicated to connecting people across cultures and industries. As a scholar, I explore how storytelling and imagery shape public discourse, focusing on enhancing youth media literacy to combat misinformation. My coursework, including Designing Media for Social Change, and my research with USC Annenberg’s Critical Media Project underscore my commitment to this mission. In other news, I recently won first place at the 2024 USC Undergraduate Writers\' Conference for my essay proposing a combined biomedical and biopsychosocial approach to mental health in the Japanese medical field. I strive to make an impact in the classroom not only as a student, but also as an educator. I’ve served as a remote English tutor for Louisiana second-graders with Teach for America and as a writing course assistant for the Prison Education Project at the California Institution for Women, emphasizing empathy-driven teaching. These roles have reinforced my belief in the transformative power of education. In the entertainment and media industries, I’ve gained hands-on experience as a Digital Streaming Operations Intern for the 2024 Paris Olympics and as a volunteer at the SXSW Film Festival, where I honed my conflict mediation and team collaboration skills in high-pressure environments. As a photojournalist at USC and an event photographer for NewFilmmakers LA, I seek to spotlight human narratives to inspire connection and understanding. Furthermore, as an intercultural communicator, I’ve built relationships that were only possible through my studies of French and Japanese, which have led to internships in marketing in Nagoya, Japan, and at the Cannes Film Festival. I will continue this journey by studying abroad at Sophia University in Tokyo in Spring 2025, further enhancing my cultural and linguistic proficiency. In the future, I aim to merge my passions for education, media, and cross-cultural communication in a career that offers opportunities to work internationally, where I can continue building relationships and creating inclusive spaces. I’m seeking roles in education, social work, cultural diplomacy, entertainment, events, or broadcasting.
