About Conor Cawley
I have nearly a decade of experience writing professionally. At Tech.co, I\'m responsible for writing between 4-6 articles per week focusing on tech news, covering topics like AI, remote work, and cybersecurity. On top of that, I am responsible for contributing to and updating the catalog of commercial content on the site, including business software reviews, comparison guides, and product round-ups. Beyond writing, I\'ve taken on a mentor-like role for new writers at the company, regularly hosting workshops to improve the speed and efficiency of writers that are new to our system. I\'ve also become the resident American, helping my British co-workers to understand the nuances of American English, as the site is primarily US readers. Outside of writing, I also have an extensive background in stand-up comedy, writing and performing my own material for more than a decade. I\'ve released and produced my own 30-minute special, called Mostly Harmless, which is now available on YouTube. I\'m also a founding member of Don\'t Tell Comedy in Chicago, launching the show in 2018. Beyond hosting the majority of our weekly shows, I\'m also tasked with searching for venues, fostering relationships with venue managers and vendors, managing my team of seven producers, coordinating comic and producer pay, and facilitating equipment storage.
Experience
Head Producer
Jun 2018 — Present · Chicago, IL, US
After being tapped to run Don\'t Tell Comedy in Chicago, I embarked on the task of finding unique locations that would be willing to host secret stand-up comedy shows on Fridays and Saturdays in the city. After a few months, I had built a network of around two dozens businesses — from ice cream shops and gyms to wedding venues and coworking spaces — that wanted to host shows. After seven years, the show and the team have grown substantially. Our 7 other comic producers and 2 non-comic producers all work to set up and host shows between two and four times per weekend. We\'ve hosted shows in more than 80 different locations, including the Chicago Athletic Association hotel, Accenture Tower, and the 99th floor of the Willis Tower. In this role, I am in charging to scheduling staff for events, managing venue relationships, negotiating venue fees, paying comics and producers, storing and hauling equipment to and from shows, booking comics, marketing shows, managing the show\'s social media, reaching out to and negotiating with new venues, creating and managing the show database, and of course, hosting the weekly shows.
