Reporting to the Supervisor of Registration, Switchboard and Patient Information (RSPI), Administrative Support - Patient Registration and Admitting is responsible for interviewing patients and/or their family members in person or by telephone, to positively identify patients and obtain their demographic and financial information. Providing a critical function in obtaining patient information, accurately entering the information in the patient care systems while completing registrations and admissions efficiently. The initial point of contact for persons seeking services through the Patient Registration/Admitting areas, expected to communicate effectively to provide exceptional customer service to the patients, clients and the general public. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: Acts as lead on evenings, weekends and night shifts for other clerks in the department, as needed. Performs the Vital Stats role and interact with Nursing Units, Pathology, Social Workers, funeral homes and families in accepting and releasing bodies. Collects hospital fees for uninsured and out-of-country services. Answer telephones, greet the public and direct individuals accordingly. Assists with training and provides support for new clerks, helping them to understand the various procedures and processes within the department.
