ABOUT CONNOR SEKAC
Professional Engineer with 10 years of experience in Alberta’s utilities industry, specializing in transmission system planning. At the AESO, I gained extensive experience in system planning, transmission system development, and aligning technical decisions with regulatory requirements and strategic objectives. I’ve led major initiatives such as the AESO 2025 Long-Term Transmission Plan (LTP), where I provided oversight for a team of engineers and engaged executive stakeholders to deliver a clear, actionable 20-year vision for Alberta’s transmission network.I have worked across all phases of transmission development, including technical studies, stakeholder engagement, regulatory filings with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), and hearings. A notable example is the Vauxhall Area Transmission Development (VATD), which I led from planning through to energization.I thrive on innovation and creative problem-solving. I led an AESO strategic initiative to install and test a modular power flow controller, to manage real-time congestion, a first-of-its-kind project in Alberta. This required coordinating a cross-functional team, collaborating with the transmission facility owner and product vendor, and managing technical, regulatory, and operational risks. I co-authored a technical paper on the project and presented the findings at CIGRE Canada 2024.Mentoring engineers is a priority for me. In the initiatives I lead, I foster growth by creating opportunities for project ownership, skill development, and collaborative problem-solving, while providing the guidance and support team members need to succeed. As the EIT Coordinator at the AESO, I have supported early-career engineers through structured mentorship and development programs, helping build their confidence and accelerate their professional growth.
