This was a substantial and highly successful, turnaround of one of BAE’s key strategic programmes (with 600 cadets eventually building to 1500 ) in one of its most important markets. The goal is to create a Saudi Navy self-sufficient in its own training, and in addition to providing skills and knowledge, I have built new facilities, refurbished others and commissioned a marina training facility. Creating a new culture more focussed on safety, customer and employee relations, open and honest communications, leading to operational effectiveness and improved success. Setting a clear vision for a team drawn from many cultures, my willingness to communicate difficult messages to senior stakeholders in highly diplomatic ways has created and enabled this transition, building the foundations for a highly successful and collaborative relationship.Selected Achievements: • Successfully turned around a critical delivery project. The key was changing the toxic relationship with significant sub contractors, spending a year to create a closer and more customer focused relationship, delivering useable training tools. • Set the strategic direction for follow on contract extension and new opportunities after the current contract’s life in 2022. • Saved millions of pounds by implementing the Project’s own training design team. I also renegotiated an incorrectly scoped IT contract to the Project’s advantage with no less of progress. • Ensured the project remained in the minds of both the key KSA stakeholders and BAE leadership based in Riyadh, despite the project being based near Bahrain in Dhahran, by regular key stakeholder engagement, influence campaign and communication.

ABOUT DAVID PINCH MARTIN
I am a Programme Director and Board Level Operations Director, currently delivering a successful multi-million pound military capacity development scheme (with infrastructure and training components) for BAE Systems in Saudi Arabia since 2019. In particular, I have had a major impact for BAE in one of the firm’s most important markets, delivering leadership and training with the Maritime sector. Strategic, a leader of people, teams and organisations, I am a problem solver who manages risk and whose hallmark is leaving organisations in a significantly better place than I found them. My selected achievements include: • Secured a contract extension with the Saudi Government to provide naval training, resulting from my mobilization and delivery of a multi-million pound people development and infrastructure programme for BAE. • Solved the key challenge to the survival of a crucial piece of the UK’s national defence infrastructure by realigning the budget, closing infrastructure to pay for extensive refurbishments. • Worked closely with the UK, Saudi, American and other governments to build relationships leading to improved humanitarian outcomes in Yemen during the conflict. • Turned around the purpose and performance of a 1100 person organisation to improve the quality of its talent development and its contribution to the UK’s relationship with its European agents. Above all I am an expert in organisational turnaround, transformation, problem solving and the running of the “Business as Usual” functions of a wide range of organisations. I use my people, leadership and organisational skills to meet demanding objectives and achieve sustainable results.
