ABOUT MATTIA COLOMBO
I\'m a very curious and driven individual; I thrive when looking for solutions to complex problems, and I have developed the skills required to communicate different options to stakeholders. I found throughout my education and career that there are always many solutions to one problem, and I learnt to identify the optimal one in the current context. I am a capable team member and work well in a team environment, both in a leadership role and a team member role. I am also quite capable of working independently, as proven by my personal project for a Kafka Connect CLI. I however believe that working with others is more productive and leads to better results since discussion and different views on the same issue can lead to finding solutions that one person alone may have missed. My favourite pastime is spent learning new things: I am interested in many aspects of technology and the new ways of working brought about by the cloud. I particularly enjoy looking into containerised environments and all the ways things can be managed using containers, Kubernetes and similar technologies. I also really enjoy thinking about processes, how they can be improved and how we can automate as many steps as possible, so people can concentrate on the work that really matters. This is reflected in my automate-first philosophy, always trying to find the parts of a problem where automations can help. Finally I am passionate about security, trying to learn more and more about it and always trying to see the security angle. Security is the most important aspect of IT but also the one that too often gets treated as an afterthought. I firmly believe that unless people concentrate more on those security aspects that are in their control, things are going to progressively become worse. So I try to do what I can to bring the conversation to the forefront whenever I can.I trained as a physicist, obtaining a BSc and MSc in Italy before moving to the UK for a PhD in Mathematical Physics. This taught me to analyse critically complex topics, and to find solutions based on my own knowledge and on others research. I then qualified as a Secondary Science teacher and worked as such for one year. This has taught how to communicate effectively my knowledge at a variety of different levels and to a variety of stakeholders (students, other teachers, parents). I then joined Walgreens Boots Alliance on the Software Engineering graduate scheme, completing a Lvl 4 apprenticeship in Software Development.
