ABOUT COLLEEN MCQUEEN

I’m a PGCE Secondary English trainee teacher actively seeking a permanent role where I can bring my passion for language, literature, and inclusive education into a vibrant school community. My teaching practice has given me experience across a wide range of learners, including students with SEN, EAL, and those requiring targeted support to access the curriculum. I am committed to creating supportive, structured, and engaging learning environments where every student can develop confidence in reading, writing, and self-expression.Alongside my school placements, I have worked as an English teacher in a juvenile detention centre, supporting young people from difficult and often disadvantaged backgrounds. This role strengthened my behaviour management, trauma-informed practice, and ability to build meaningful relationships with students who may not have thrived in traditional settings. It also deepened my belief in the transformative power of English by helping students rediscover their voice, develop empathy, and see themselves as capable learners.I bring creativity, organisation, and a reflective approach to my practice, alongside high expectations and a genuine commitment to student wellbeing. I’m excited to join a school where I can contribute to a strong English department, continue to grow as a practitioner, and support all learners in achieving their potential.Open to connecting with schools, leaders, and educators who share a passion for inclusive, impactful English teaching.
