BBC News Intake brings together News Traffic and News Intake Video. It is part of the Newsgathering department and is based in the heart of the newsroom in Broadcasting House. Traffic is the first point of contact for many of the BBC’s correspondents when filing dispatches or doing live 2 ways for the many News programmes.As a Media Co-ordinator for Traffic I maintain communications between correspondents in the UK and abroad, the newsrooms and current affairs programmes in BBC Radio, Television and World Service. I gather information and present data relating to audio, record on digital recording systems and alert news programmes of incoming audio dispatches from correspondents.I monitor and co-ordinate incoming audio and video feeds from BBC staff on location and from News Agencies such AP, Reuters, EVN and other broadcasting organisations allied to the BBC. I am responsible for basic technical quality checks on incoming audio, such as line level and other technical specifications. I also ensure recordings are made, or arrange for recordings to be made, of incoming material from a variety of sources: for example, Radio Cars, Satellite Phones, Mobile Phones, ISDN, Studios, TV Links or Satellite vehicles and FTP.
