ABOUT COLIN CARTWRIGHT
Most packaging machines are harder to wire, commission, and support than they need to be. Too much time is still spent pulling home runs, landing wires on terminals, debugging intermittent faults, and relying on a handful of people who know how everything really works. When those people are unavailable, startups drag on, downtime increases, and small problems become costly. I work with packaging machine builders and CPG manufacturers across North America to simplify how control systems are designed, installed, and supported. The focus is a practical shift away from traditional panel-centric architectures toward modular, connectorized systems that are faster to build, easier to commission, and straightforward to troubleshoot at 2 a.m. when nobody has time to trace wiring diagrams. The payoff is practical and measurable: · Machines are built faster because there is less wiring and fewer terminations· Commissioning and debugging are simpler because problems are easier to isolate· Startup is smoother because variability is reduced at every connection point· Long-term support improves because systems no longer depend on tribal knowledge or scarce skill sets For CPG manufacturers, the downstream effect is fewer electrical connection-related fault events, faster troubleshooting, and maintenance teams that can find and fix faults without waiting for the person who knows how it\'s wired. My approach is education first. I produce technical content, guides, and tools that help engineering and maintenance teams understand what their wiring architecture is actually costing them, in downtime, in commissioning time, and in skilled labour.
