Providing services in geotechnical and geostructural engineering, design, and construction management on a range of projects through efficient, effective, constructible designs. Onsite engineer on a successful box tunneling vehicular underpass project beneath an active four lane highway. Six massive jacks connected to steel cables installed by pilot tube guided auger boring were used to push a 20’ x 30’ by 160’ long precast tunnel into place while concurrently excavating spoils from within and maintaining flow of traffic on the highway above. Colby has also overseen a multitude of horizontal directional drilling projects ranging up to 56” in diameter. One of the more interesting projects included using a gyro for steering the pilot bore on an ocean outfall project. On completion of the reaming and swab passes, the product pipe was floated out by tug boat and then sank while using divers to connect the product pipe to the drill string for pullback.
