About Colby Farley

Currently working on the CISSP. I don’t treat Information Security (Cybersecurity) as a 8-5 job. I constantly try to push the boundaries in learning what I can. Whether it is Systems Administration, Virtualization, Storage, or Networking. I seek to understand the systems we use on a daily basis and help leverage my knowledge towards solutions that help businesses grow. I am currently looking at starting the Master’s program at WGU for Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. I also supplement my formal learning with courses from SANS (GCIH), Elearnsecurity (PTS, PTP), and many others. Because we can all accept the fact that if bad guys will collaborate and get smarter every day, why don’t the good guys do the same?My current interest in security falls within network, virtualization, and storage security. I have recently finished my VCP and will continue to learn new technologies. I’ve also gotten my hands dirty with SQL injection, MITM attacks, and Passive/Active sniffing. At home I practice with my homelab. This include a Dell R910 server (144GB RAM, 12 cores, 4TB HDDs), 3 Cisco Routers, and 3 Cisco switches. Runs vSphere 6.0 and 10 VMs at any given time (Windows, Linux, Unix, and others). I plan on getting 2 ASA 5510s to practice with them. Along with a proper 42U rack to hold all of this. My current roadmap is: GCIH, GCIA, MCSA Server 2012, ISM, PTS, PTP, and Mobility+Along with security and hardware I also enjoy messing with programming. While I have done programming in C++, Java, VBScript, and Assembly these are not my main focus. I am currently focused on Python, Bash, Perl, and Powershell.
