ABOUT CODY M. CLEMENS
Dr. Cody M. Clemens (he/him/his) joined the Department of Marketing in the College of Business at Ohio University as an Assistant Professor of Instruction in August 2024. Dr. Clemens teaches Strategic Business Communication in the Integrated Business Cluster (IBC) program, and he is the Director of the Leadership Launchpad Program. Before joining the faculty at Ohio University, Dr. Clemens served as a McCoy Assistant Professor of Communication at Marietta College. He specializes in teaching courses in business communication, leadership, as well as training and development. Also, he has taught several courses, and conducted extensive research, within the fields of health communication, relational communication, and gender studies. Additionally, Dr. Clemens is a Senior Consultant and Certified Belbin Team Roles Trainer with Smartt Strategies LLC. When consulting, he works to help businesses and organizations achieve better results through using and understanding the Belbin Team Roles methodology. Dr. Clemens has worked with clients such as the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Weapons Division to integrate the Belbin methodology into their organizational practices.Regarding his scholarly work, he has published in several peer-reviewed journals; those journals include Health Communication, Journal of Autoethnography, Journal of Communication Pedagogy, and the Ohio Communication Journal. He has also published a book chapter in The Handbook of Communication Training (Routledge) with his co-authors on Belbin Team Roles. In terms of service, Dr. Clemens has stayed active over the years. He served a two-year term as the President of the Ohio Communication Association from 2022 to 2024. Also, he serves on the editorial review board for several academic journals including the Journal of Autoethnography, Communication Monographs, the Ohio Communication Journal, and Women & Language. Regarding his accomplishments, Dr. Clemens has been awarded numerous awards including the John G. & Jeanne B. McCoy Endowed Professorship of Teaching Excellence (2024) and the Edward G. Harness Outstanding Educator Award (2023) at Marietta College. The National Communication Association’s Training & Development Division awarded Dr. Clemens the Rising Star Award (2019), Top Panel Award (2021), and Top Reviewer Award (2020 & 2017). In 2021, he was recognized as one of the “40 Under 40” outstanding alumni by Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity.In his free time, he enjoys spending time at home with his friends, family, dog, and many horses.
