About Connor McHugh

I am passionate about connecting people and nature through strategic communication, education, and storytelling. With a background in conservation leadership and multimedia communication, I strive to create engaging, research-driven strategies that inspire conservation action and foster collaboration among scientists, decision-makers, and the public.Throughout my work, I’ve built expertise in media production, strategic communications, project management, and conservation outreach. I am especially interested in advancing a career in wildlife conservation education within zoos, aquariums, and wildlife sanctuaries, where I can help translate complex ecological issues into meaningful experiences that inspire people to care and act.I’m currently pursuing my second master’s degree in Journalism and Media Communication at Colorado State University, where my research explores how educational video media in zoo settings can shape public perceptions and support for geographically distant conservation initiatives. I previously earned a Master of Conservation Leadership, completing a capstone project with Bluff Lake Nature Center that developed a strategic communications plan for urban watershed conservation and community engagement.Ultimately, my goal is to work at the intersection of education, storytelling, wildlife conservation, and visitor engagement, helping institutions like zoos and aquariums foster deeper connections between communities and the natural world.
