I left the Air Force 10 years ago and every time I have tried to re-engage with the job market, I was met with a sea of organizations that wanted to help. There is an endless supply of resume coaches, webinars, influencers, and skills translators that veterans can access.which is awesome but it does not get former military members hired. Employers need to look beyond the deafening noise in the veteran hiring arena to truly engage with top military talent. Most transitioning service members do not want to continue in their current military field. Employers, challenge yourselves to transform your current military hiring program into one that actually works. The diverse group of transitioning military members bring an incredible amount of grit, leadership, integrity, teamwork, and aptitude to any organization. These soft skills are far more powerful than any hard skill the military may have given them. If you have any influence over your organizations\'s hiring practices, it is time to start thinking outside the box. Put down your blinders and challenge yourselves to create a military hiring program that transforms these phenomenal military members into employees fit for purpose in your organization.
