Shaun Cloonan

About Shaun Cloonan

Shaun Cloonan is a music teacher at North Hills High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he leads the Symphonic Choir, Chorale, North Hills Singers, and serves as producer of the drama program. He previously taught music theory and technology courses, and was vocal director for the spring musical for 12 years. As of 2023 he also travels across the street to the middle school where he leads the 6th grade chorus, concert choir, and directs the (grades 6-8) winter musical. For ten years at the middle school, he hosted the “Mucho Macho Music” festival sponsored by the American Choral Directors Association of Pennsylvania (ACDA-PA). He has also hosted or co- hosted the PMEA District 1 West Junior High Chorus festival, in 2006, 2011, and 2023; and in 2016 co-hosted Honors Choir. Prior to 2013, Mr. Cloonan taught at North Hills Junior High and West View Elementary. Outside of North Hills, Shaun serves as Minister of Music at First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood, where he leads the Sanctuary Choir, emerging worship ensemble, serves as primary song leader for worship, and coordinates music outreach efforts. He maintains FPCE’s online presence (website, social media, live-stream). From 20••••03, he sang as a professional core member of the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh and was Family Sessions Coordinator for their Summer Choral Institute. Mr. Cloonan performed with the St. Maurice Parish Masterworks Choir as a singer and tenor soloist from 20••••11, and he currently sings with Voces Solis, where he serves on the board as publicity chair. An active member of both ACDA-PA and PMEA, Mr. Cloonan has presented workshops to collegiate music educators, chaired a vocal jazz honor choir, facilitated choral reading sessions for middle school and multicultural music at state conferences, and guest conducted elementary and junior high choral festivals. He served as PMEA District 1 newsletter/web editor from 20••••18, and is currently Communications Chair (website, social media, marketing) for ACDA-PA. Mr. Cloonan holds a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in voice from Westminster College, and has completed almost all of the coursework toward the Master of Music degree from Duquesne University. He also holds Avid Pro Tools 11 User Certification from CalU.
