   Derby Middle School (DMS) serves a diverse population of approximately 870 students in 6th-8th grades in a safe and supportive environment.Our school is located in the heart of Derby, KS at the corner of Madison and Woodlawn.In order to prepare students to live in and contribute to a changing world, Derby Middle School provides a progressive education to meet the academic, cultural and social needs of the students in our community.A strong team approach is evident at DMS with two teams at each grade level. We believe the teaming approach allows teachers to build strong relationships with students and help them to be successful at the middle level. Teaming also allows for teachers to collaborate and review student data to drive their instruction. Parents are able to work closely with teachers on the team concerning their child’s learning needs.In addition to a rigorous curriculum, DMS provides several electives. Project Lead the Way, a project-based curriculum that focuses on math, science and technology and offers unique opportunities for students to use their knowledge in hands-on experiences. DMS has a proud tradition of excellence in the fine arts. Band, vocal and orchestra classes are offered. Our music programs consistently score top ratings at festivals and competitions. If students have an interest in art, a tremendous program in 2D and 3D design is offered. Family and Consumer Sciences, PE and foreign language round out the elective curriculum.It’s always a great day to be a Derby Bulldog!
