I am the Primary Care Clinical Director for Ophthalmology at NHS London.I was appointed to the HVLC (high volume low complexity surgical cases) and outpatients programmes to provide clinical leadership and drive transformation for London. I provide clinical leadership, advice and input to the London region\'s elective transformation programme for Ophthalmology.I provide clinical leadership to the delivery and implementation of the specialty priorities, focusing on improving quality and clinical outcomes for patients across the whole pathway. I explore the utility of digital enablers to support effective healthcare.Through the CLG, I drive forward the programme objectives to reduce unwarranted variation and improve productivity across elective care in London and within each ICS.I support the development and dissemination of learning from the elective transformation programme across London through the monthly programme learning network.Within the Elective Transformation Programme, my overall London focus is on: treating as many patients as possible, reduce long waits and the PTL (patient treatment list), reducing health inequalities, maximising efficiency, supporting the delivery of excellent care, and supporting our staff.Within the HVLC programme, my work involves reducing unwarranted variation across HVLC specialities across London. I focus on achieving national targets for elective activity levels, reducing the number of long waiting patients for HVLC procedures on admitted PTL, achieving top decile theatre productivity performance, increasing day case rates, and improving clinical outcomes.Specific achievements comprise: reduced reliance on anaesthetists in cataract lists​, increased use of topical blocks for cataract surgery​, development of clear post operative care plans including follow up in the community, creation of surgical centres which demonstrate high productivity, creation of a pan-London consent form for HVLC procedures.
