About Cleber Trujillo
I have more than 15 years of experience in neurodevelopment and stem cell research. I have been applying human neural stem cells as a model system to explore novel pathways and therapeutic targets for psychiatric disorders. As a researcher at the University of California San Diego, I took advantage of reprogramming technologies to generate iPSCs and recapitulate the early stages of the human MECP2 Duplication Syndrome and Williams Syndrome, aiming to improve personalized medicine strategies. In an attempt to understand human brain development, I also developed human cortical organoids that dynamically change cellular populations during maturation and exhibit complex electrical activity. This approach provides opportunities for investigating and manipulating the role of network activity in the developing human cortex. At Vesalius Therapeutics, we use stem cells on a large scale to re-think and redefine common illnesses, bringing lab research closer to patients in need. I truly believe that our efforts will deeply impact and push the field to the next level.
