About Cora Lynn Deibler

I received a BFA in Communication Design from Kutztown University in 1985, and an MFA in Illustration from Syracuse University as a University Fellow in 1995, and have been a faculty member and Area Coordinator for Illustration at the University of Connecticut since 1997. I served as the Associate Head of Art and Art History from 2002-10, and as Department Head from 20••••18. In spring 2004 I received the University’s Advisor of the Year award and was nominated in 2005 for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars’ Faculty of the Year award.Specialties are editorial, children’s, and children’s educational illustration. Current interests include humorous images in an educational context for children’s publishing. I performed as Spider magazine’s resident serial artist on a monthly basis in “The Danderfield Twins,” from January 2004-09. Other clients have included; The New York Times, The Washington Post, Cricket and Ladybug magazines, The Oxford University Press, and Scholastic publishing, among others. New work explores concrete and communicative explorations of type and image/type as image in an editorial and children’s publishing context. These images begin as traditional drawing, painting and collage surfaces and are completed digitally.Awards include How magazine\'s self-promotional annual, the Print Annual, The New York State Press Association, and RSVP’s annual illustration competition. I\'m a member of Phi Kappa Phi, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and the Society of Illustrators, where I served as a member of the Educators Symposium committee from 20••••13. My work appeared in “Women in Illustration: Contemporary Visions and Voices” at the Norman Rockwell Museum in 2004, and in “Picturing Health,” also at the Norman Rockwell Museum, in 2007. I currently serve as a member of the Low Illustration Committee at the New Britain Museum of American Art, and as a Board Member with the National Council of Arts Administrators.
