ABOUT CLAUDIO IACOPINO

I am passionate about the Earth Sciences and their potential in improving our understanding of planetary resources, allowing for better global governance and human awareness. I have a strong background in advanced software technologies, particularly AI and Machine Learning. In my career I have applied these technologies to the Space sector especially the Earth Observation and the Operations fields and I am now committed to give a contribution to the Environmental Services. At Surrey I explored bio-inspired paradigms to achieve goal-based automated planning for satellite systems and I have designed a new Mission Planning System for the Earth Observation constellations of Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL). Moreover, I have been leading R&D projects regarding various elements of ground software systems including, mission control and data handling. At ECMWF I investigated cutting-edges cloud technologies for building a new infrastructure to handle the huge amount of weather, climate and observation data produced daily and critically needed by a vast amount of environmental applications. In my current role at ESA, I\'m looking at how the scientific community and the application developers can efficiently find, access and use the vast number of EO digital platforms currently available. Specialties: Autonomy for Space Mission, Satellite Constellation, Ground Segment, Earth Observation, AI, Swarm Intelligence, Machine Learning, Self-Organizing Systems, Multi-Agent Systems, Cloud Technologies, Data Cube.
