Did you send a text to your mom today? I made that happen.Did you use an app to get a ride today? I made that happen.Did you talk to your best friend for hours last night? I made that happen.When ever someone asks me what I do professionally, I always tell them, I make your cellphone work.Over the years I have seen this industry evolve in so many wonderful and sometimes unexpected ways. There used to be a term used earlier in the century, the killer app. But the killer app never really materialized - it was the technology that made all the apps killer.For the last 30+ years, I\'ve been a collaborator to making these things a reality. I made a list of things that I\'ve done in chronological order and I amazed myself- Greenfield network deployment - from analog to all flavors of digital (TDMA, CDMA, UMTS, XXRTT, LTE, 5G)- Seamless roaming around the world. It used to be that you\'d be pretty much stuck where you were if you had mobile service. Networking was huge! We could roam about the country and be unhindered by the invisible extension cord- First text messages including mobile originated text messages. How many of you remember that prior to texting you had to go to a website to send a message to someone else and that there was no way of them replying to you other than calling you back or paging you- Enabling communications to the masses. Let me put this into perspective if you\'ve not lived outside of the US - people used to wait for years for a phone number to be available to purchase when there were only landlines- Location based services including navigations. It wasn\'t too long ago that we all carried a book of local maps to get around town or around the country. If you were abroad or visiting somewhere new, you\'d be at the mercy of the kind people around you. Imagine a 911 call today versus 30 years ago!And there are so many things to come. When I started this journey so many years ago that I would have the privilege of driving so many of these innovations in so many different capacities - Wireless Operator, Engineer, Design, Thought Leader, People Leader and Innovator. I love my job, where I\'ve been and where I\'m going!
