About Claudia L.
Claudia has a diverse background in coaching, social justice work, nonprofit administration, grant making, communications, philanthropy, government, and the arts and culture field. She\'s currently the Director of Programs at New Breath Foundation, supporting and resourcing the movement of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders impacted by incarceration, detention and deportation, and violence. She completed a nine-month training cohort with Coaching for Healing, Justice, and Liberation in January 2023. Previously, Claudia served as Just Beginnings Collaborative\'s Grants Manager, responsible for co-creating a comprehensive grant making program with senior staff to support the survivor-led movement to end child sexual abuse. Prior to that, she was Communications Manager with California Humanities, a nonprofit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Claudia also served on the Community Investments team at the San Francisco Arts Commission, where she refined grant making processes for the nationally recognized Cultural Equity Endowment, led monthly discussions on racial equity, and developed outreach efforts to potential grantees from BIPOC and queer and trans communities, as well as individuals with disabilities. Claudia spent six years at the Oakland Museum of California, where she was the first Digital Communications Specialist managing content and strategy for the website and email programs and launching of the Museum’s first institutional blog, centering stories and voices from the Oakland community. She served at OMCA in various capacities from membership to publicity, digital content to marketing, to editor of the Member magazine. Prior to that, she worked at several Bay Area arts and culture organizations, including the Center for Asian American Media and the Korematsu Institute, and spent two years as a museum educator at the Science Museum of Minnesota.Throughout her life, Claudia has consistently focused on centering marginalized communities to effect cultural and social change that reflects their experiences and her commitment to justice. She was a communications lead with Asians 4 Black Lives from 2014 to 2021, and began working with the Bay Area Transformative Justice Collective in 2018. She also pursues her passions by offering communications, marketing strategy, and graphic design services for small businesses and organizations and through an emerging practice in printmaking. Claudia holds a Bachelor\'s of Arts in Humanities, Media, and Cultural Studies from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, 2008.
