ABOUT CLAUDIA CASCONE

I am enthusiastic about research that offers solutions to current and future environmental challenges, with a particular interest in digitalization of drinking water treatment processes. Everything started during my bachelor studies in Italy, where the installation of public fountains fitted with drinking water treatment systems sparked my interest in the topic. This led to the idea of proposing a similar project in my home town with their subsequent installation. Following my passion, within my PhD project in collaboration with five drinking water treatment plants in southern Sweden, I developed my laboratory skills and I wrote a Python open-source toolbox for the analysis of large sensor datasets that are more and more common in drinking water treatment. The PhD offered me the possibility to learn how to work in parallel projects and communicate with different tipologies of public. Within my role of expert at the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute I was involved in writing research proposals and representing IVL in Swedish and European networks related to water.My colleagues often refer to me as a helpful, happy and energetic person. In my free time, I enjoy playing music, volleyball and being a member of the Young Water Professional network in France and Sweden and having a leading role in their Italian chapter. My personal goal is to become a water specialist and be able to use my knowledge to improve water quality. I enjoy to continue using and expanding my programming skills and to be involved in international collaborations, especially with developing countries.
