Following my election as Vice-President of the Society of American Foresters (SAF) in 2015 and serving as President and Chairman in 2016 and Immediate Past President in 2017, I have assumed the role of Past-President in 2018 and going forward. The SAF is the national scientific and educational organization representing the forestry profession in the United States. Founded in 1900 by Gifford Pinchot and six other foresters, it is the largest professional society for foresters in the world, representing approximately foresters and other natural resource professionals. Members include natural resource professionals in public and private settings, practitioners, researchers, administrators, educators, and students.As President, I served as Chairman of the Board of Directors, and along with three other officers, eleven district directors, and the CEO, provided governance and leadership to the national organization, serving members and growing the profession. I also chaired the Executive Committee, and served ex-officio on all other Board committees. In succession, I served as Immediate Past President in 2017, assisting with transition and continued Board governance and leadership.As Past President, beginning in 2018, I\'ve served as a member of the National Board of Directors Nominating Committee and served as the Chair of the National Leadership Development Committee, a diverse set of SAF members and staff who are focused on the needs of SAF volunteer leaders and providing recommendations on how best to meet those needs and improve SAF volunteer leadership through training, development and best practices and systems.
